As an adolescent girl my family and I took a day trip to visit New Melleray and spend time in worship with you. It was an experience I have not forgotten and was recently recounting to my husband. I went on to study religion at the University of Iowa earning my BA in Religious Studies. Thank you for extending to me such an interesting bit of foundation for me to build my studies and life experience, for that matter, upon. May God richly bless you.

I made my initial retreat with you in December, 2001 and it has been influential in my daily life ever since. I look forward to my return, and continue to pray for the Brothers as they quietly change the world, one soul at a time.

While looking for a monastery to make a retreat to, I came across your website and found it to be the most informative one. You give great information on what to expect upon arrival, what to expect during the visit, and what actions to take back home with the visitor! Very nice photographic tour of the monastery and its interior beauty. I have chosen this location for a possible future visit. God bless you all at New Melleray Abbey.

Please pray for my dad, Darrel Johnson, who died May 21, age 87. And God bless all the wonderful, devoted monks of New Melleray. Thanks for all you do. You’re amazing!

I find your website to be very well done. It is inspiring to see your beautiful Abbey grounds. It makes me want to visit you and never leave. You’ve made my day a little nicer. May GOD’s blessings and peace always be upon you.

I enjoy fond memories of summers long ago visitng you all with my parents and siblings and enjoying the little that we had instead of desiring that which we had not. Some days it seems like it was only yesterday, yet there are many more tomorrows. I have been very fortunate to learn life’s lessons from the mistakes of others as well as my own. I am told that I am far to insightful for someone my age and uncommonly witty for someone who has seen death on far too many occassions at far to early an age. Yet I am still here and soon it will be My Time as my mission is only beginning while others seek to retire. I have far too many gifts to share with those who choose to listen. For I am the son of my Father who passed before his time and time is finally on my side. I’ve learned to enjoy what I have instead of what I don’t for quite often the wanting and the desire to have something or someone is much more better than the desired result. I’ve learned to enjoy life’s simple pleasures as despite our extended longevity, we each only have one time to shine and thanks to the grace of God, I’m just getting started.
