Celebrating All Saint's and All Soul's Day with the "Saints" at New Melleray was truly a gift from God. We, the people of Sacred Heart, Maquoketa, IA... wish to thank all of you for opening your home to us. It's a truly Heavenly Experience!! Fr. Stephen's talk "THE POWER OF PRAYER" was filled with God's wisdom.......and we loved it. May we grow closer to Jesus because of this experince.
In His love,
Karen and Jane

Your site is wonderful, and I enjoyed seeing imagery of the area where I was raised. New Melleray Abbey has always lived in my memory since my youth. When I was 7 I was hit by a car in Buena Vista (Clayton County). I was seriously injured and spent a summer in St. Mary's Hospital in Dubuque. A monk from the Abbey was a frequent visitor while I was there, and provided comfort and compassion. He was once a friend of my father. He spoke to me about his medical ordeal due to a heart attack in the mid 1970's, and he has since passed away. The opportunity to provide thanks to him, and to the Abbey, had never found its moment. In this moment I ask that you take a moment to realize the strength and support your order has provided to people of all ages. Although New Melleray Abbey rests in the tranquil rolling country of Iowa, its spirit spans the globe, as well as time.

In 1979, I was a member of the USAF THUNDERBIRDS who were performing at an air show in your town. Several of us took a tour of the abbey. I guess you made a great impression on me as I still check in to your web site and did enjoy the newsletters that were sent out years ago. Please remember me in your prayers and also my brother Jim Fisher who passed away on Sunday 9/23. Thank God for people like yourselves.

I think your website is very interesting and inspiriting. I had the opportunity to hear and pray Compline. It remained with me during the time I was in the seminary for five years with the Dominican Brothers & Priests. Well now I have been married for four years and I hope to begin the Permanent Deacon Formation next year, 2008. Please pray for me and my wife Annette. Also, I am going to have my third lower back surgery on September 7, 2007… please pray for that, too.

Hello, I found your website surfing on the net. I am living near a Norbertine Abbey in Tongerlo/Belgium. I have been through some difficult times and I find peace and comfort in the church, especially when praying at Kindje Jesus of Prague. It often helps. I just wanted to write this e-mail without any other purpose.
Kind regards,

After a rather tough two weeks at my work at a gas station in Santa Rosa, CA I am taking a little internet retreat and trying to connect in my own mind and heart with other people in the world who get up at 3:30AM and try to offer to our good Creator a job done according to Christ's excellent suggestions. Well, it's not a perfect job but I have a family to support. Thanks for your inspiring website and let's hope that God will see fit to bless me with a better paying and less exausting employment in the New Year of 2007!

"The Vowed Life: A Contemplative Retreat for Couples" - WOW! It was my first time at New Melleray (my husband had done retreats before). I left a different person. I came to know the meaning of marriage as a sacrament & the solemnity of the marriage vows taken by us and the vows taken by the monks...thanks to the Day's, Br Jonah & Abbot Brenden.
