Brothers, I very much appreciated the funeral explanation. As a Catholic lay person,I feel many times we do not know enough about orders practices.

Dear Abbott, and Brethren, of New Melleray, I want to thank you for having said Mass for my daughter Kirsten very recently, and Im pleased to inform you that her medical procedure, so far, looks good, and pending the results of her Biopsy, she should come out of it OK. When I think of you gentlemen in your monastery, out of sight, for the most part, from public view, in your "prayer closet", I am reminded of the biblical passage "you are the salt of the earth, the light of the world". Thank you for all you do. Eric Dahlgren.

On the 18th of march 2005, i lost my beloved father Bruce to cancer. i had never heard of the trappist monks till the priest recommended you to order a casket from. Daddy was a simple man, and he would have loved the casket we chose for him as much as we did. the love you all put into your task was clearly apparent. As my husband and i have chosen cremation for personal reasons, we wil be ordering Urns soon from you, and i will order caskets for my mother and step mother when the need arises. God bless you all for your love and dedication.

Greetings to all at New Mellary from Ireland. I was delighted by Br. Kieran's account of the foundation and early years of the Abbey. It meant a lot to me as Fr Clement Smyth was my great grand uncle, ie, my mothers granduncle. Incidentally, Mons. Martin MacNamara, who served as a priest in Des Moines and died in the late 1940s, was a nephew of Bishop Smyth. Fr. Martin was born in Flagmount, Feakle, Co. Clare and his mother was a sister of Bishop Smyth. When I was a small child, I recall my mother's great sorrow on reading in a letter from Des Moines of the death of her beloved uncle, Fr. Martin. The broad outline of the New Mellary story was familiar to me as a child. The wonderful Internet has filled in so much more for me. Thank you for your lovely site. I hope that some time I will get to visit with you. Patrick O/Dwyer

Thank you for all your support and prayers for our brother, Steve Broderick. He found peace and comfort in his times of need at the Abbey. Please contine to pray for him now that he rests in peace and is with God. Thank you also Father Bernard Cullen for your kind words when we visited the Abbey after his funeral. We were comforted by your words and knowing that you visited his grave site meant so much to us. Thank you all. Is it possible to come to a service at your chapel and could it be dedicated to Steve? We would love to bring our family to pray for our beloved Steve.
Yes, a Mass may be offered here for Steve. Our Mass Secretary will help you arrange a day so that your family can be present at the Eucharistic service when we will all be praying for your brother.

Dear Brothrs, I am elated to have found your website. As a Filipino, I feel so at home with your virtual monastery tour. Your hospitality exudes even in the fiber optics....

I always have this compulsion to check out websites of Trappists. Perhaps because the life I cannot live for now is virtually exprienced by me as I see monks in the habit. I believe I have a vocation but it is still coated with the frost of fear. The uncertainty that Merton was saying in his Thoughts In Solitude rings very familiar. Please pray for me.
