Borned and raised in Muscatine where my family have been members of St Mary in Muscatine for five generations and as a student of K-12 in St Mary's and Haye's Catholic high school I never got to Dubuque to the abbey; interestingly enough, after moving to Colorado, that I should visit your home page.
May God bless each and everyone of you.

While in undergraduate college, we were required to attend a retreat every year. For four years, I attended your Monastery. Those were such great retreats that now, 40 years later, I plan on going back for a couple of weeks.

I just wanted to say I am enjoying your website. As a native Iowan, it always makes me homesick to see pictures of the beautiful hills, trees, and valleys. I first read about your community in Kathleen Norris' book THE CLOISTER WALK but had never pursued checking the website out. My loss! Perhaps I will have the opportunity to experience a retreat there in the future. I certainly hope so. In the meantime I will continue to visit your website and enjoy the pictures and information about the Abbey.
God bless each of you.

I was once a lay brother postulant at New Clairvaux Abbey, California, and Dick Justus (Bro Cornelius) was my "guardian angel" at the novitiate.
The Trappists have always been a special influence in my life since, and I try at least once a year to spend a retreat at New Clairvaux.
My prostrate cancer has steadily advanced in the last few months and I'll probably be needing one of your caskets in the near future, if not your prayers now. I was sorry to hear of Dick Justus' passing, but also realize that he did reach his happy goal as a Trappist. Such a happy life...! please keep me in your prayers..

I just made a call to your Abby for information on coming for a visit when my sister (Sister) comes to my home from Ohio, the more I think about the visit after reading your guestbook,I think of it as a special time in my life to be able to be so close to God when we will finally walk on your grounds and be able to speak with someone at the Abbey. Looking forward to our visit at the end of May. Asking for your prayers for my sister's safe trip coming to see me and her way back home

Not a day goes by that Grainne and I do not pray with thanks for our visits there with you. We hope to return to celebrate Paul Tanner's 10th anniversary this year.

SAINT MEL HIGH SCHOOL CLASS of 1957 held a 50th Golden Jubilee Reunion in June 2007 in Chicago, IL. Our Classmate Richard Bock is remember, and was missed by all of his classmates. Oue CLASS takes pride in never forgetting a Classmate, we have initiated a memorial brick walkway in which each student's name will be inscribed at the San Miguel School, operated by the Christian Brothers. At the Class Reunion, Father John McGeean celebrated a memorial mass honoring our deceased classmates...again, the Class of 1957 never leaves a classmate behind in our thoughts, prayers and daily acts of kindness. I am a retired Naval Officer with 30 years service, fought in two wars, and have carried the rosary my Mother gave me as a graduation gift over 50 years ago...it has inspired me to keep our faith. Beautiful website, I will come back many times to visit.
Again, God bless our Ricard Bock, a Trappist Monk.
Warm Remembrances of St. Mel.
