I attended a retreat at New Melleray in 1960 with a group of Franciscan Lay Brothers from Minneapolis. I was with them for only a year, but my experience during that retreat was profound. Now that I am retired from teaching, I hope someday to return for a visit.

I was going through my dresser and cleaning old stuff out. I realized I had items, like pictures and such from the army and when I was a Domincan lay Brother (not very long. Well I came across this letter I had from your Abby, Father M. Daniel Guest Master. One of my Uncles who is now in nursing home and I wanted to make a retreat at your place back in 1961. We never made it but I wanted to see is you monks were still in business. Pray for me and Uncle Chuck.

So many of us go an entire lifetime and never seem to know what our true purpose in this life is. As a former classmate and friend of Br. Paul Andrew Tanner, I want to extend congratulations for not just recognizing his purpose, but for the dedication and sincerity of acting upon it. God Bless You Br. Paul.

I will always remember my first visit to New Mellerary in August of 1962 (I have not been back since!). I remember the hospitality of the monks especially of Fr. Daniel Lenihan, who I have been corresponding with since then! My 38 years in Colombia have ended and I am back in the states living and working at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jackson, Wyoming. I hope some day I will be able to return to New Melleray. God bless the community.
