The final discernment of a vocation is a lengthy process. We never permit a person to join the community by solemn vows before he has lived with us at least six years. Prior to those vows, the candidate has no obligation to continue in the monastic life.

Application may be made by any practicing Catholic well grounded in his faith, in good physical health, and possessing the psychological maturity required by the obligations of monastic life. Those who desire to finish college and graduate work are encouraged to do so before applying for admission. For those not interested in academic degrees, we require two years of work experience after high school.

Some monks will be called by the abbot after solemn profession to serve the community in priestly ministry. The required studies and priestly formation will be completed at an appropriate seminary.
